Take My Money!
I’m sold. Black Panther (T’Challa) is finally getting his own film! On top of this, it is happening within the already impressive Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is an integral part of what is to come with the upcoming Infinity Wars & beyond. I am so excited! This is one of my most anticipated films for a bunch of reasons. I’ll list a few of the big ones.
Captain America: Civil War
Black Panther was one of my favorite characters in Captain America: Civil War. When that film came out, I really wanted to see Chadwick Bowseman’s portrayal of Black Panther, and Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man. Needless to say I was blown away by both. I can’t wait to see Spider-Man: Homecoming as well!
The Black Panther Character
The character was introduced in 1966 in Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #52. Not only is the Black Panther the first black superhero, but his character defies all of the negative stereotypes set upon black people at that time and to this day. Learn more about Black Panther.
This Film’s Importance
This film boasts an all star cast featuring the likes of Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Danai Gurira, and more. The cast is primarily African or African-American. Furthermore, the director is Ryan Coogler! He is a highly acclaimed African-American director known for Fruitvale Station and most recently Creed. This is seldom done in mainstream Hollywood films, and has never been done to this magnitude. This degree of representation in this way is truly remarkable. We have a hero that looks like us that is one of the most wealthy, powerful, and intelligent characters to hit the screen. The success of this film can further the change of how we are largely depicted in film and period.
